Tulalip, WA

I went for a nice bike ride today making Tulalip my destination point.  Thankfully, I found Kayak Point County Park, I really needed to use the bathroom and after about 15 miles of nothing on Marine Drive I came upon this nice little public area.  Its also a campground and they offer yurts for rent!  I would've walked around more if it were a bit warmer.  Here's photo #38 and 39.

A kind lady saw me taking picture #38 from afar and said "I bet that's going to be a great picture."  I love it when I come across people with good karma, she made my day.

I just had to do it.

Okay, okay, so it's another sunset... but there's no sun involved (directly), just trees and clouds.  I couldn't help myself.   I'm completely seduced by the eye-candy that the Pacific Northwest has to offer.  It's so different from the east coast.  This abomination occured this past Thursday... Train museum - Snoqualmie, WA

Went for a ride on my motorcycle to the train museum in Snoqualmie yesterday.  The trains are outdoors, apparently left to rust away.   Photos #30 - #34

After all that attention to the train, here's two of  my motorcycle, photos # 35 and # 36:

Bainbridge Island, WA

Went out to Bainbridge Island for errands the day before yesterday.  It was dark and cloudy for most of the time I was there.  It's always fun to take the ferry.  I might've taken more pictures but I couldn't use some of the features on the Canon 60D and was bummed that there was something wrong with it.  Turns out it wasn't the camera, it was just me.  Photo's #28 and 29.

What was I thinking???

Although it was valuable for testing the home-made light studio, that piggy bank picture shouldn't have made the cut.  So I'm back to photo #27.  I was dabbling with the idea of stock photography (again).  What a bad idea it was!   Thinking in stock footage takes the fun out of photography for me.

Piggy Bank

Preparing to shoot indoors, I set up a homemade lightbox. My first victim is a little clay piggy bank purchased at a market while in Colombia a few years ago.  Photo #28

The lighting still needs a bit of adjustment.  My main issues were getting the right white balance for the 100watt bulbs I was using.  The Canon 60D's auto white balance didn't work well, so I set the temperature to 2700 kelvin shot in RAW and made finer white balance adjustments in the photo editor.

Harbor Island, Seattle

The south end of Elliot Bay and at the mouth of the Duwamish River is a man-made island called Harbor Island.  Photos #23 to 27:

Georgetown

A gem of a place, Georgetown is a hip bohemian enclave nestled between heavy industry, a highway and an airport.  Here are photos #16 to 22:

There's more to Georgetown than brick and Vespas, I'll be revisiting this place many more times.

Happy New Year!

I think my professor implied sunrises along with the sunsets.  But this one is the first sunrise of 2011!... I had to share.  This was taken at Boren Park in Capitol Hill, Seattle.  I was initially dissappointed at the fact that the sunrise occured further south than I imagined.  I looked up "best location for sunrises in Seattle" on the internet and a number of people said that Boren Park was it.  I can imagine that summer sunrises are great here when the sun is rising further north, which would be right in line with the great view that Boren Park has.  Though the sun rose behind some trees, the pre-sunrise was nice.  A pleasant surprise.  Photo #15:
